DAV Adambakkam Admission Procedure

Hello Parents,

You found the right page mostly only one page which talks about the full DAV Adambakkam Admission Procedures. When I wanted to put my daughter into the DAV, I never found a consolidated page which has admission procedures to help me out. I felt very yaak! Not even a single page to let us know the most important phase of our child, so forced to write this page!! I know atleast few will be get helped from this page.

This is my personal experience I am sharing with you. Following are the process of getting admitted into DAV, Adambakkam.

  • Getting Registration Form
  • Submitting the Registration Form
  • Waiting for the Interview Call
  • Interview for Child
  • Waiting for the Interview Result
  • Interview Result
  • Payment of Fees
  • Collecting Books & Uniform
Getting Registration Form:
Yes, this is registration form which cost Rs.100. Its not admission form. This form is used to apply our interest for the school. First we need to know when this form will be available in the school. Based on last year input, I got to know the forms will be issued sometime in Oct-Nov. So from Oct I started calling school [044-22601845] to check the date of form issue. Whenever I call they used to tell me check next week. So don't expect a good reply from them as hundreds of us calling to ask the same information. In the mean time I used to visit the school by person once a week to check status. One fine day they said, pls check the notice board it has all the details about the registration form issue.

Heard about the long queue we will get for getting this registration form. So whats next put my iPhone full charge and copied few movies to spend time on the queue. I went to the school to see if they form queue around 8PM (Yes, next day morning 9AM only they are giving the registration form). I saw few more parents gathered and talking to the security of the school. The school management was so clear to avoid forming queue in the night, so they said come by 9AM in the morning we will give application to all the parents who are here from 9AM to 11AM. So don't form a queue now and go sleep. We all went home and again I went to school to check if they form a queue by 11.00 PM, still it was same stage they don't allow to form a queue and again went by 1.30 AM already there are 100 people in the queue. There starts a long wait in the queue my iPhone helped a lot for passing time. Finally they let us inside the school around 7 AM and asked us to sit. Below is the picture and remember still lots of people are waiting outside the school.

I got my application around 8.30 AM and there is a instruction board which tells us when to submit the registration form.

Submitting the registration form:
Make sure you provide all correct information and correct phone numbers. They call you in this phone number only for interview. Not so tedious like getting it, It might take some 30-45 mins. Do remember to collect fellow parents contact numbers now, so you guys can keep track of any progress.

  • You need filled registration form
  • Copy of child birth certificate fully in English

Waiting for the Interview Call
Checking school when they will call for interview and checking the fellow parents like if they got any call from School. Finally they called us on 4th Feb'14 (form submission was mid Nov'13) in the mobile and said the interview date & time. Interview is on 18th Feb'14 morning 10.00AM.

Interview for Child [LKG]:
When they said Interview the first thing came in mind was Abiyum Naanum movie only! What the hell they will ask in the interview? Will it be more of child based interview or parents!! No information was found about it in internet. Calling for Interview is not admission confirmed, I got this information from former school student parent. So something you have to do for the interview.

Interview is mostly child centric, 90% of the questions to child only. They ask about Alphabet, Colors, General questions like how are you & parent names, Identifying wild animals, doing puzzles & rhymes. This is first round of interview, yes there are two rounds. If they feel child is good then only they send for second round. I saw few child sent out from the first interview itself. In the second interview (happened at the same time) they asked few questions about parent and few simple questions to child. And told us the result will be out on 2nd March'14.

Interview Result:
So the result day came, they put up a selected list in the school. They selected around 450+ for Pre-KG & 390+ for LKG. Our child selected and we are finally made it. They asked us to collect the admission form on 4th March '14. They asked to bring child also with us so that the measurement for uniform will be taken. Admission form is Rs. 300 I guess. By this time they gave us fee details. We have to submit the filled admission form by 6th March '14 with fees.

Payment of Fees:
You need to pay part of the fee by DD and part by cash. Totally it will be less than 50K for whole year LKG.

Collecting Books & Uniform:
They say date and time, go collect it :)

Anna Prasam or Choroonu in Guruvayur Information

Anna Prasam or Choroonu, the first rice giving ceremony of a child can be conducted before Lord Guruvayurappan and is auspicious. For many people, this is the first time, the kid enters a temple. We are Tamil people we don't have this function in Tamil culture, but still my wife wanted to feed our child Tanika there.

Some preparations:

  • The Anna Prasam is starting every day from 5 AM in the morning and goes till lunch
  • Maintain the dress code [Men: Dhoti/Mundu, Women: Salwar/Saree & Child: Mundu]
  • You can buy Mundu for child near the temple itself
  • Food items for Anna Prasam will be provided by Temple (you need not to prepare anything)
  • Camera & Mobiles are not allowed inside the temple (you can keep it just outside the temple in keeping area with nominal fee)
  • It is better to be early in the morning to avoid rush specially when you carry child

After keeping your belonging in the counter, enter the temple. You need to buy a receipt for the "Anna Prasam or Choroonu" by paying Rs. 10 in the counter. After getting the receipt go near the entrance you can see Anna Prasam area (near Thulabaram). Anna Prasam is a group activity there in Guruvayur. At a time they will serve some 10-15 child. They will be providing the Cooked Rice, Payasam, Appalam & Bana Leaf. There itself you can find photographers, by paying a nominal fee of Rs. 200, you can get the pictures of the occasion. They will be sending the pictures in courier in a week time. So the occasion ends there.

Now the big problem is to see the lord Guruvayurappan, As this temple is very famous it will be crowed always. Atleast you need to wait in a queue for 2 hours to see the lord. That too having a child its very difficult. So there is a special entrance for Anna Prasam babies, but they allow only one person with baby. And they have separate queue for ladies & then a general queue. So plan for queue.

Have a nice trip. If you need some more information pls comment here, I will reply if I know :)
